Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has awarded an overburden removal contract to KVRR Infrastructure for the Kolgaon Opencast (OC) Mine located in the Wani Area of Maharashtra.
The contract involves comprehensive overburden (OB) removal operations, covering excavation of various types of materials including hard OB and black cotton (BC) soil/soft OB across all types of geological strata. The scope of work includes deployment of hired equipment such as Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM), excavators, tippers, drills, dozers, graders, and water sprinklers.
Key activities under the contract include drilling, excavation, loading, transportation, dumping, spreading, dozing, grading, and dust suppression through water sprinkling. In addition to OB removal, the contract also encompasses coal extraction from the quarry face and its transportation to the crusher or stockyard.
The total contract value, inclusive of all applicable duties and taxes, is ₹100.74 crore. The project is scheduled for completion within a period of 10 months, including the monsoon season.
