Uttar Pradesh Gets a Power Boost: NUPPL's Unit-2 Lights Up!

Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL)—a joint venture between NLC India Ltd. and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (UPRVUNL)—successfully synchronised Unit-2 (660 MW) of its 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project with the national 765 kV grid on 20 July 2025.

This milestone, achieved in a single attempt and ahead of schedule, follows the successful completion of steam blowing and marks a major step toward the project's Commercial Operation Declaration (COD). With Unit-1 already operational since December 2024 and Unit-3 scheduled for commissioning in FY 2025–26, the synchronisation of Unit-2 significantly advances the project’s full-scale rollout.

Located in Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, the plant comprises three supercritical units and is designed to supply 75.12% of its power to Uttar Pradesh and 24.88% to Assam. The project utilizes equipment from LMBPL, GEPSIPL, and BGRESL, and will be fueled by coal sourced from the linked Pachwara South Coal Block in Jharkhand.

NUPPL emphasizes environmental responsibility, employing Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies to meet emission standards, along with a zero liquid discharge system to minimize environmental impact.

NUPPL CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli commended the achievement, crediting the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders for this critical progress.
