The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has received ₹820 crore from the Delhi government as the first installment under the Basic Tax Assignment for the 2025–26 financial year, following the recommendations of the Fifth Delhi Finance Commission. This allocation—equivalent to six percent of the government’s net tax revenue—is classified as an untied grant, allowing MCD full flexibility in its use across civic services.
The funding will support the clearance of municipal debt, enhancement of public infrastructure, and improvements in waste management and urban governance. Additionally, the Delhi government has revalidated ₹50.78 crore for biomining operations at three major landfill sites: Okhla (₹20.25 crore), Bhalswa (₹20.75 crore), and Ghazipur (₹9.77 crore). These reallocated funds are intended to speed up waste processing and reduce legacy waste mounds.
Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh assured residents and councillors that there will be no shortage of funds for public welfare. He also reaffirmed the MCD’s commitment to making Delhi cleaner and more sustainable through focused, long-term initiatives.
