UltraTech Cement, India’s leading cement and ready-mix concrete (RMC) producer, has received star ratings for 13 of its limestone mines from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) for FY 2023–24, reaffirming its leadership in sustainable mining. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Notably, the Naokari Limestone Mine at Awarpur Cement Works in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, became the first limestone mine in India to be awarded a 7-star rating—the highest distinction under IBM’s sustainability-focused star rating system. The mine had previously secured consistent 5-star ratings since the program’s inception.
The 7-star recognition reflects UltraTech’s robust sustainability initiatives, including:
Zero-waste mining, Use of lime sludge from paper mills, Floating solar panel installations, Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS), Women empowerment programs
The remaining 12 limestone mines received 5-star ratings, making UltraTech the company with the most star-rated mines across key mineral categories in India.
The company was felicitated by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for its exemplary contribution to sustainable mining.
