Mulki’s ₹100 Cr Mission to Clean Up Shambhavi River

The Mulki Town Panchayat has proposed a ₹100-crore underground drainage (UGD) project to combat severe sewage pollution in the Shambhavi River. Across the town's 18 wards, over 4,500 households, 15 apartment complexes, and 12 commercial establishments currently operate without underground drainage connections.

According to Mulki Town Panchayat Chief Officer Madhukar K, land for a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has already been identified, and the project proposal is awaiting state government approval. The Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board (KWSSB) is slated to execute the project.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Puttur, local MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has sought clearance for a separate ₹41.79-crore UGD project under the Central Government’s Urban Challenge Fund scheme.
