India's ECMS Jumps: ₹5,532 CR Investment Approved!

The Central Government has approved seven new projects worth ₹5,532 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aimed at strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem and reducing import dependence.

Announcing the approval, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the projects are expected to generate ₹44,406 crore in output and create 5,195 direct jobs across key sectors, including smartphones, automobiles, telecom, and medical devices.

Launched with an outlay of ₹22,919 crore, the ECMS seeks to attract domestic and global investments, enhance India’s electronics value chain, and expand the country’s footprint in global supply networks. By September 2023, total investment commitments under the scheme had reached ₹1.15 lakh crore, far exceeding initial projections.

The newly approved projects will focus on critical components such as camera modules and multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs). They will be located across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, fostering regional manufacturing clusters and supporting balanced industrial growth.

India’s electronics sector continues to experience rapid expansion, with mobile manufacturing emerging as a key growth driver in the nation’s push toward self-reliant, high-tech production capabilities.
