Stage II of the Road over Bridge (RoB) at Trichy Junction is now expected to be opened to traffic by June 2026, following earlier construction delays.
Both the State Highways Department and Southern Railway have accelerated their respective works to expedite completion. The Railways has procured the required steel girder for the section spanning the tracks near Trichy Junction, while the Highways Department is progressing with the construction of retaining walls and approach ramps for the multiple arms of the RoB. Railway officials stated that assembly and welding work for the bowstring bridge has commenced, with another span expected to arrive shortly. Heavy machinery, including cranes, will be deployed to position the span onto the supporting piers.
Initial delays were attributed to challenges in procuring key components and in acquiring land at the Posts and Telegraphs Colony for the project. A Highways Department official noted, “Once the Railways complete their portion and hand over the structure, we will proceed with the construction of the approach roads.” Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion around Trichy Junction.
