Veolia Unlocks 530,000 Tons of Hazardous Waste Solutions

Veolia, a global leader in comprehensive hazardous waste solutions, has announced plans to add 530,000 tonnes of new hazardous waste treatment capacity annually by 2030. This expansion aims to address growing global demand and critical shortages in treatment infrastructure. The French multinational also highlighted its strategic focus on expanding operations in India, particularly in the hazardous waste management sector.

Veolia specialises in the treatment of complex industrial hazardous waste, including solvents, factory wastewater, fly ash, batteries, heavy-metal-contaminated soil, and persistent "forever chemicals" such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

CEO Estelle Brachlianoff underscored the urgency of the move, stating: "Hazardous waste treatment is becoming a strategic bottleneck for many industries, especially those undergoing transformation or reshoring production. It's also a critical issue for human health and environmental protection."

In India, Veolia is active in both water and hazardous waste management. It has a significant presence in Gujarat, where it manages industrial hazardous waste facilities, and is exploring further expansion in the region. The company also operates water supply systems in Nagpur and wastewater treatment plants near Delhi.
