A World Bank delegation recently visited Ludhiana to review progress on the canal-based water supply project, designed to deliver treated surface water to the city through a modern network of reservoirs and pipelines.
Led by consultant BKD Raja, the team inspected the upcoming state-of-the-art water treatment plant at Bilga near Sahnewal, as well as several overhead reservoir sites across the city. Senior engineers and project officials accompanied the delegation during the site visits. The project’s first phase, jointly funded by the World Bank and AIIB, involves civil works worth approximately ₹1,300 crore and is scheduled for completion by 2028. Officials noted that the new system will greatly enhance water quality and supply reliability once operational.
The delegation appreciated the current pace of work and provided guidance to ensure timely completion. MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal confirmed close monitoring of the project, emphasising that “strict directions have been issued to complete the works within the stipulated time.”
