Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the Godavari-Cauvery-Gundar river-linking project and grant it "national importance" status to address the State's mounting water scarcity.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Vijay highlighted that Tamil Nadu relies on neighboring States for over 30% of its water and faces critical groundwater overexploitation. He emphasized that the project is vital for channeling surplus floodwaters to chronically drought-prone southern districts, including Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Virudhunagar, to secure the region's long-term water needs.
