Suzlon Energy, India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, has announced plans to establish three new AI-enabled smart blade factories in Gujarat and Karnataka, with a third location to be finalised shortly.
The expansion will bring Suzlon’s total manufacturing footprint to 20 facilities across India, enabling the company to meet its 6.2 GW order book while reducing logistics time and locating production closer to key wind project hubs. The new factories will incorporate automation, digital workflows, robotics, and advanced monitoring systems to enhance productivity, quality, and safety. Suzlon also plans to upgrade its 15 existing factories with similar technologies.
JP Chalasani, Group CEO, noted that the company has allocated an annual capex of ₹550 crore for these projects. He stated that Suzlon is building a manufacturing ecosystem that is “simpler, smarter, and faster,” guided by six principles: rapid, scalable, intelligent, connected, personalised, and technology-led.
The expansion supports India’s growing wind energy sector, as the country targets 100 GW of wind capacity by 2030. The new factories are expected to generate 3,000 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs, with the majority benefiting rural communities.
