The Maharashtra government has approved the detailed project report (DPR) and implementation plan for the ₹58,755 crore Uttan-Virar Sea Link project, designed to improve connectivity between Mumbai’s western suburbs and the Palghar region.
The 55.12 km corridor, managed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), will include a 24.35 km sea link and 30.77 km of connecting roads. The first phase is expected to be completed within 60 months. The state will provide financial support, including ₹2,619 crore for land acquisition and ₹261 crore for rehabilitation and resettlement. Subsequent phases will integrate with the Mumbai–Vadhavan Expressway Connectivity project.
The sea link is seen as a key infrastructure initiative to enhance regional transport and provide better access to the proposed Vadhavan Port. “This project will transform connectivity, benefiting both Mumbai’s suburbs and the expanding Palghar region,” said an official.
