The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon begin a major relining project on the 30-year-old water transmission line that carries water from Khadakwasla Dam to the Parvati water purification plant.
With an investment of ₹57 crore, the initiative aims to curb water loss, prevent corrosion, and improve the overall efficiency of water conveyance. Work is scheduled to begin next month and will be carried out in phases, including pipe relining and valve replacement, over an estimated period of three months. PMC officials have assured residents that water supply will remain uninterrupted, supported by an alternate transmission line and water from the Mutha canal.
A senior PMC official noted that the repair plan had been in consideration for a long time, with the tendering process recently initiated. While residents welcome the upgrade, many continue to voice concerns about persistent distribution issues—such as leakages and low pressure—and have urged the PMC to address these challenges as well.
