Tripura's Traffic Fix: 7 New Bypass Roads on the Way

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced plans for seven new bypass roads across key towns to ease traffic congestion and enhance regional connectivity.

Speaking at the National Seminar on Infrastructure Development in the North-East Region at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, CM Saha highlighted the state’s priority of connecting all district and subdivision headquarters—as well as remote villages—to the national highway network through double-lane roads. “Without infrastructure, nothing can be achieved,” he said, emphasizing the critical role of roads, highways, airports, water supply, and urban development in driving industrial growth and public welfare.

The proposed bypasses will be located at Kumargarh, Dhanpur, Manu, Ambassa, Teliamura, Ranirbazar, and Jirania—areas currently experiencing traffic bottlenecks due to national highways running through them. Additionally, a 449-km ring road around Agartala has been proposed under the Bharatmala scheme, along with flyovers, beginning with the Radhanagar–IGM Hospital corridor.

Tripura’s road infrastructure currently includes 10,618 km of PWD-maintained roads and 923 km of national highways. The state government allocated over ₹7,000 crore in the previous budget to boost infrastructure, underlining its long-term vision for socio-economic development.
