Purandar Airport: New Land Deal Takes Flight with "AeroCity" Incentive

In a major step toward reviving the long-delayed Purandar International Airport project, the Pune district administration has introduced a new compensation package aimed at expediting land acquisition.

Under the revised proposal, farmers who voluntarily part with their land will receive developed plots equal to 10% of the land surrendered. These plots will be located in a planned ‘AeroCity’ near the proposed airport site and will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Approximately 700 acres have been reserved for the AeroCity. The compensation model was finalized during a high-level meeting held in Mumbai last week.

In addition to receiving developed plots, landowners will also be paid four times the prevailing market value of their land. Officials noted that this dual-benefit approach is designed to incentivize voluntary participation and accelerate the acquisition process for the long-pending project.

The acquisition will be conducted under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Act, 2019. As per the Act, only landowners who give consent will be eligible for the 10% land return scheme. Those who do not provide consent will receive monetary compensation alone, calculated at four times the market rate.
