The Twin Tunnel Vision: Reshaping Bengaluru's Mobility

Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE), a special purpose vehicle, has floated global tenders for the ambitious Twin Tunnel Road project aimed at decongesting traffic between Hebbal’s Esteem Mall Junction and Silk Board Junction in South Bengaluru.

The 16.7 km twin-tunnel corridor will be executed in two segments and is designed to ease travel across one of the city's most congested stretches. The project is planned under a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model with a 34-year concession period, including a 50-month construction timeline, targeting completion by end-2029.

Package 1: From Esteem Mall Junction to Seshadri Road (Race Course Junction) – 8.748 km, estimated cost ₹8,770 crore, with a financial guarantee of ₹43.85 crore.

Package 2: From Seshadri Road to Silk Board Junction – 8.748 km, estimated cost ₹8,928 crore, with a financial guarantee of ₹44.64 crore.

Each tunnel will feature three traffic lanes, with strategically located entry and exit points. Officials have confirmed the deployment of at least eight Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to carry out the construction.
