Ramkrishna Forgings' ₹2,000 Crore Bet on Indian Railways

Ramkrishna Forgings is set to commence forged wheel production from its upcoming ₹2,000 crore facility in Chennai by FY27, marking a significant step in the company’s strategic expansion into the high-potential railway components sector. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 2,28,000 forged wheels and is being funded through a mix of debt and equity.

According to Managing Director Naresh Jalan, initial production is expected to begin with 40,000 wheels in FY27, ramping up to 1,00,000 units by FY28. The project stems from a partnership with Titagarh Rail Systems, in which Ramkrishna Forgings holds a 51% stake. The joint venture previously secured a Letter of Award (LoA) to manufacture and supply forged wheels to Indian Railways.

In addition to forged wheels, the company is diversifying into undercarriage manufacturing. It has received prototype orders from Indian Railways, with first deliveries of fully assembled undercarriages scheduled for July. Revenue from this new segment is projected to reach ₹250–300 crore over the next two years.

These initiatives reinforce Ramkrishna Forgings’ position as a key supplier in the railway components ecosystem, aligning with the government's focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.
