Pune's Sewage Upgrade: ₹332 Crore Boost for 23 Villages

The Central government has sanctioned the second instalment of ₹332.30 crore for a major sewage infrastructure project in 23 villages recently incorporated into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). This initiative is part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme and aims to upgrade the drainage system in these newly merged areas.

The total project cost is estimated at ₹1,437.94 crore, of which ₹533.85 crore has been approved so far. The latest instalment was cleared on July 22, 2025. Officials confirmed that work on the project will soon resume.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj BP stated that the PMC has developed a comprehensive sewage plan for the merged villages. The project includes replacing old sewage lines and laying approximately 472 km of new drainage pipelines. It also involves constructing eight new sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a total treatment capacity of 201 million litres per day (MLD).

Under AMRUT, ₹343.13 crore is allocated for pipeline work, and ₹190.72 crore for setting up the STPs. Areas set to benefit under AMRUT 2.0 include Sus, Mahalunge, Narhe, Pisoli, and other newly added localities.
