Patna–Purnia Expressway: Bihar's ₹18,042 Crore Infrastructure Leap

The Bihar government has begun land acquisition for the ₹18,042 crore Patna–Purnia Greenfield Expressway project, following necessary clearances.

The Revenue and Land Reforms Department has initiated groundwork across six districts—Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Madhepura, and Purnia. Landowners will be compensated at prevailing market rates to ensure smooth acquisition and minimize disputes.

Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh has instructed district magistrates to issue preliminary notifications once approvals from the Central Valuation Committee are in place. He also called for a revised land valuation under Section 26(3) of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

The 90-meter-wide expressway will connect Chandbhatti village on NH-27 near Purnia with the Amas–Darbhanga road in Vaishali and integrate with the Patna Ring Road at Dighwara. Key features of the project include 21 major bridges, 140 minor bridges, 11 railway overbridges (ROBs), 21 interchanges, and 322 underpasses. The expressway is designed for a speed limit of 120 km/h.
