Nagpur Metro: On Track for a ₹300 Crore Kanhan River Crossing!

Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2 expansion is approaching a major milestone, with the proposed 1.3-km extension of the Kamptee corridor set to be reviewed by Maharashtra’s Chief Secretary for final state-level approval next month. The extension will take the line beyond Automotive Square to Kanhan village and includes a 500-metre steel viaduct over the Kanhan River—a critical infrastructure component.

This addition will expand the total Phase 2 network to over 45 km and increase the number of stations on the Kamptee route from 12 to 13. The project report was submitted to the state government in April, and following the Chief Secretary’s review, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for central approval.

“This extension is a strategic move that will significantly improve last-mile connectivity for thousands of residents in the Kanhan region,” a senior MahaMetro official stated.

The project is estimated to cost around ₹300 crore, with construction expected to commence once all approvals are in place. Meanwhile, work is progressing across other corridors in Phase 2, with key stations such as Lok Vihar slated for completion by November 2025. Over 90% of land acquisition required for the phase has already been completed.
