Mohali's Aerotropolis Relaunch: 3,553 Acres Back on the Map

Nearly two months after scrapping its land pooling policy, the Punjab government has initiated a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for acquiring 3,553 acres in Blocks E to J of the Aerotropolis project in Mohali.

This marks a revival of the Aerocity expansion near Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, along the Zirakpur-Banur road. Approved in June 2022, the project envisions 8,600 residential plots (ranging from 100 to 2,000 sq. yards), along with commercial and institutional zones. Land acquisition will proceed under the Central Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) recently floated ₹509-crore tenders for infrastructure development in Blocks B, C, and D, while Block A remains under scrutiny due to the ₹140-crore guava orchard compensation scam.

Landowners in the newly assessed blocks may still opt for benefits under the 2021 pooling policy, if desired. Acquisition across several villages is expected to conclude by year-end, reviving earlier plans to acquire an additional 2,600 acres, which were put on hold due to the withdrawn policy.
