The Karnataka government has announced a ₹1.2 lakh crore infrastructure transformation plan to tackle Bengaluru’s chronic traffic congestion and deteriorating road conditions.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled the initiative while launching a ₹58.44 crore white-topping project in Chickpet, highlighting that the comprehensive overhaul will include Metro line extensions, a new Outer Ring Road, tunnel roads, and double-decker corridors. Addressing the city’s pothole crisis, the Chief Minister stated that white-topped roads are designed to have a lifespan of up to 30 years, ensuring long-term durability and reduced maintenance.
Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar announced that a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared to white-top 500 km of roads at an estimated cost of ₹4,000 crore. Additionally, ₹1,800 crore has been earmarked for 83 key roads, while black-topping work on 182 roads, costing ₹695 crore, is already underway. The master plan also includes the development of a 117 km Bengaluru Business Corridor and 113 km of elevated corridors.
To enhance urban governance, the government will also integrate 28 lakh properties into the e-Khata system, streamlining property management and civic services.
