Kumaraswamy Drives VISPL's ₹4,000 Cr Steel Dream

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, has announced a major revival plan for the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISPL), with an estimated investment of ₹4,000 crore.

In the first phase of the long-term restoration strategy, two specialised firms have been appointed to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) that will outline technological upgrades and operational enhancements. The Minister stated that the DPR will be designed to ensure sustainable and efficient operations at the plant for the next 40 years, marking a significant step toward modernising one of India’s historic steel facilities.

He further noted that the revival will be carried out in multiple phases with strong support from the central government. The Minister added that he will visit the site again in January–February, and confirmed that the DPR for the development of three sectors in Phase I is already underway.
