The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed a significant tunnelling milestone under its Phase IV expansion.
Engineers successfully constructed a tunnel beneath the operational Red Line at Pulbangash—without interrupting train services. The tunnel forms part of the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg extension of the Magenta Line, linking the Pulbangash and Sadar Bazar sections. Given that the Red Line operates above the site on open foundations, the work required meticulous planning and stringent safety measures, including TAM grouting and continuous real-time monitoring of ground movement.
A comprehensive ground-strengthening programme was also implemented to stabilise the area around the viaduct pier and prevent settlement during tunnelling.
The achievement, benefiting nearly seven lakh daily passengers, highlights DMRC’s capability to execute technically demanding infrastructure works with minimal disruption.
