Karnataka's ₹2,529 Cr Water Vision: A Dream Realized by CM

On July 21, 2025, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated a ₹2,529-crore multi-village drinking water project in Pavagada taluk, Tumakuru district. The event was attended by Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, and local MLAs.

The project will supply safe drinking water from the backwaters of the Tungabhadra dam to 270 villages across six taluks in three districts, benefiting nearly 17.5 lakh people. Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said the initiative would address the long-standing drinking water crisis in Pavagada and neighboring areas of Chitradurga and Vijayanagara districts.

Water will be drawn from the Tungabhadra backwaters, located about 230 km away, with the project expected to significantly improve public health by reducing fluoride-related illnesses caused by contaminated water sources.

CM Siddaramaiah had originally laid the foundation stone for the project in January 2018. Alongside the water project, he also launched a 2,250 MW solar power project and announced several other development initiatives for the region.
