India's Second-Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge Opens in Shivamogga

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated the Sigandur Bridge, India’s second-longest cable-stayed bridge, in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district.

Built at a cost of ₹472 crore, the bridge spans the Sharavathi backwaters, connecting Ambaragodlu and Kalasavalli in Sagara taluk. The new structure is expected to significantly shorten travel time between Sagara and villages near Sigandur—home to the famed Chowdeshwari Temple—enhancing access for both residents and pilgrims.

The inauguration was attended by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, senior BJP leader B. S. Yediyurappa, and other dignitaries. Speaking at the event, Minister Gadkari highlighted the government's ongoing commitment to infrastructure-driven growth, emphasizing that projects like this bridge are crucial for improving regional connectivity and fostering socio-economic development.
