In a major step toward sustainable urban waste management, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has joined hands with Oil India Limited (OIL) to transform the capital's municipal waste into green energy. Under a newly signed MoU—witnessed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Mayor Pravesh Wahi—the two entities will set up pair of bio-methanation-based Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) facilities capable of processing 800 tonnes of wet waste daily.
The multi-phase project allocates 10 acres in Tehkhand for a 500 TPD plant, alongside a 7-acre site in Okhla slated for a 300 TPD facility. Beyond diverting organic waste away from shrinking landfills, the initiative will generate eco-friendly fuel and high-grade organic fertilizers. This strategic venture comes after MCD terminated a previous deal with IL&FS for the Okhla site to pivot toward the new agreement with Oil India.
