On 19 November 2025, State Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah laid the foundation stone for the Dibrugarh Town Water Supply Project (Part-2) and a new sewage treatment plant (STP) under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
Funded by UIDF-NHB, these initiatives are designed to address water scarcity and improve sanitation across Dibrugarh’s rapidly expanding municipal area. The foundation-laying ceremony, held at Dibrugarh University, was attended by several key officials, including MLA Prasanta Phukan and District Commissioner Bikram Kairi. Highlighting the significance of the projects, the Minister noted that they will play a crucial role in enhancing residents’ quality of life as Dibrugarh moves toward becoming Assam’s second capital by 2027.
These developments are expected to boost the city’s transformation into a major administrative and economic center in upper Assam, paving the way for long-term, sustainable urban growth.
