Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced that Pier C at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 will commence international operations from the first week of May.
The operator stated that Pier C has been successfully converted from domestic to international use through strategic planning and seamless integration with existing infrastructure, without the need for new construction.
Following the transition, the airport’s international passenger handling capacity is set to increase by nearly 50%, with an additional capacity of 10 million passengers per annum (MPPA). This will raise Terminal 3’s total international capacity to approximately 30–32 MPPA, enabling it to better accommodate growing global traffic.
DIAL has also implemented several operational enhancements to improve passenger experience and streamline processing. These include the addition of 12 self-baggage drop counters, 20 emigration counters, five Automatic Tray Retrieval System lanes, and dual-view X-ray machines for faster security checks. Additionally, 16 boarding gates have been converted for international use, along with the installation of 40 new Bureau of Immigration counters in arrivals. Passenger movement has also been improved with three new escalators and four lifts.
Commenting on the development, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the upgrade will strengthen long-haul connectivity and support airline expansion plans, aligning with India’s ambition to emerge as a global aviation hub.
