Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the remaining work on Vadodara’s Vishwamitri River project will be completed within a year. Speaking at an urban innovation and infrastructure summit, he highlighted the progress made by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and the Irrigation Department, which have already completed most pre-monsoon tasks based on recommendations from the Navalawala Committee—established in the aftermath of the 2024 floods.
Emphasizing the importance of aligning development with environmental sustainability, CM Patel echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to protect natural resources. He also noted the evolving role of municipal corporations, which now oversee not only essential services like roads, water, and power, but also health, recreation, and fitness infrastructure.
Key long-term interventions include the construction of a gated check dam near the Anwa reservoir, water diversion from the Ajwa reservoir to the Jambuva river, and the building of check dams upstream of Ajwa on the Vishwamitri river. The state government has earmarked ₹1,200 crore for the project, with regular monitoring to ensure timely completion.
