Adani Green Energy plans to more than double its battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity at the Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat, targeting a total capacity of over 7 GWh by FY27.
The expansion will be backed by a significant capital investment of ₹25,000–₹40,000 crore. The company is on track to commission 3.5 GWh of battery storage capacity by the end of FY26, positioning battery storage as a key pillar of its renewable energy strategy.
Battery energy storage has gained strategic importance for Adani Green due to grid augmentation delays, which have constrained power evacuation from the Khavda site in Kutch district near the India–Pakistan border. CEO Ashish Khanna said the near-term objective of the storage project is to absorb renewable power that would otherwise be curtailed, while the longer-term storage expansion aligns with the company’s broader project commissioning roadmap.
The 3.5 GWh capacity slated for commissioning by March-end is expected to become India’s largest battery storage project, marking a major milestone in the country’s clean energy infrastructure.
