The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated preliminary work for a new 3.2-km bridge over the Ganga River, aimed at strengthening road connectivity between Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
This significant infrastructure project will connect Buxar in Bihar to Bharauli in Uttar Pradesh and is estimated to cost approximately ₹368 crore. The bridge is set to enhance daily mobility for thousands of commuters. Of the total span, 1.2 km will be built to the west of the existing Veer Kunwar Singh Bridge, while the remaining 2 km will consist of an elevated rotary on the Bharauli side to facilitate smooth traffic movement.
As per the engineering blueprint, the structure will be supported by 40 pillars—eight situated mid-river and the remaining 32 on either side. The first pillar (P-1) will stand in Buxar and the last (P-40) in Bharauli. Currently, soil testing is underway, with ASC Infratech conducting bore tests up to 170 feet deep. Collected samples have been sent to New Delhi for geotechnical analysis.
Construction will begin once the Central Government approves the geotechnical report. Upon completion, the bridge is expected to significantly cut travel time, boost trade, and create employment opportunities throughout the region.
