The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved administrative and financial support of ₹58.60 crore for a key infrastructure project in Bihar's Samastipur district. The project includes the construction of a four-lane road and a new bridge connecting Magardahghat to Muktapur.
Specifically, the initiative will upgrade a 2.056-km stretch from Mathurapur to the Muktapur road over bridge (ROB) on National Highway-322. A major component of the project is the construction of a new 200-meter-long high-load reinforced cement concrete (HLRCC) bridge over the Budhi Gandak river. This new bridge, featuring eight spans of 24 meters each, will replace the existing screw pile bridge.
Additionally, the road between chainage 67.471 km and 69.256 km will be widened and reinforced to support higher traffic volumes. A tender has been issued, and construction is slated for completion within 24 months.
Bihar Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen welcomed the move, noting that it will greatly improve connectivity between Samastipur and Darbhanga while easing traffic congestion.
