ACME Shines Bright: Bags NHPC's Landmark 275 MW BESS Project

ACME Solar Holdings has emerged as the successful bidder for NHPC’s tender to develop 275 MW / 550 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects at Kuppam and Ghani in Andhra Pradesh.

At Kuppam, ACME won with a tariff of ₹2,10,000 per MW per month for a 50 MW / 100 MWh system. For the Ghani project, the company secured the bid at ₹2,22,000 per MW per month for a larger 225 MW / 450 MWh system. Both projects are required to provide two full operational cycles of two hours each per day.

To support the projects, ACME Solar will receive Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of ₹27 lakh per MWh, or 30% of the total project cost, whichever is lower.

This marks a significant milestone for ACME Solar as it diversifies into standalone battery storage, expanding beyond its existing portfolio of solar, wind, firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE), and hybrid projects. The auction was conducted under a February 2025 NHPC tender aimed at boosting energy storage capacity in Andhra Pradesh.
