A New Flow for Bihar: Indrapuri Reservoir Project Gets Green Light

On 13 January 2026, the Bihar Cabinet approved the construction of the Indrapuri Reservoir Project following the finalisation of a long-pending water-sharing agreement between Bihar and Jharkhand for irrigation and other uses.

The agreement, which resolves disputes over the sharing of Sone River waters, was concluded after deliberations at the 27th Eastern Regional Conference held in July 2025 under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Under the agreed terms, Bihar will receive 5.75 million acre-feet (MAF) of water, while Jharkhand will be allocated 2.0 MAF. The project is expected to significantly enhance irrigation facilities across eight districts, including Bhojpur, Buxar, and Gaya.

In addition to the reservoir project, the Cabinet approved ₹155.38 crore for the installation of more than 9,000 CCTV cameras across 53 jails, ₹30 crore for the Bihar Advocates Welfare Trust, and ₹314.20 crore for the construction of Bihar Bhawan in Mumbai. The Cabinet also cleared several related initiatives linked to the implementation of the Indrapuri Reservoir Project.
