A New Era for Gas Transport: PIL and Crown LNG Join Forces

Pipeline Infrastructure Limited (PIL) and Crown LNG Holdings have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish pipeline connectivity between Crown LNG’s proposed terminal and PIL’s existing gas pipeline network in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The MoU was signed on 10 July 2025 by Akhil Mehrotra, Managing Director of PIL, and Swapan Kataria, CEO of Crown LNG.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will connect Crown LNG’s planned 7.2 million tonne per annum Gravity-Based Structure and Regasification Unit (GBSRU) in Kakinada to PIL’s 1,400-km pipeline that runs from Kakinada to Baruch, Gujarat—currently used by companies like Reliance Industries for transporting offshore natural gas.

This partnership will allow PIL’s network to transport imported LNG from Crown’s terminal, significantly enhancing pipeline utilisation by accommodating additional gas volumes. The tie-in infrastructure is expected to support the evacuation of up to 25 million standard cubic meters of gas per day, supplying major gas markets across western and northern India.

Crown LNG, through its subsidiary Krishna Godavari LNG Terminal Pvt. Ltd, plans to begin construction of the terminal in 2026, with project completion targeted within four years.
