The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has approved several long-pending infrastructure and civic improvement projects aimed at enhancing urban services and environmental sustainability.
Key approvals include the construction of an ingesta plant at the Ghazipur slaughterhouse for processing paunch waste, and a dedicated automated multilevel parking facility at Bharat Darshan Park. The puzzle parking system, with a capacity of 188 vehicles, is estimated to cost ₹31.6 crore and is expected to be completed within 12 months. “Equipped with advanced technology, this facility will ease traffic congestion and improve visitor experience,” said Standing Committee Chairman Satya Sharma.
The ingesta plant is considered a vital step toward environmental protection, following the 2022 closure of the Ghazipur slaughterhouse by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for pollution violations.
Another major initiative includes a ₹1,144.3 crore project for the phased replacement and maintenance of approximately four lakh LED streetlights across the Central, South, West, and Najafgarh zones, aimed at improving energy efficiency and public safety.
Additional approvals include:
Procurement of 17 backhoe loaders to strengthen sanitation efforts.
Extension of agreements with 11 NGOs managing cremation grounds until December 31, 2026.
Development of a new DTC depot at Hari Nagar.
