A Breath of Fresh Air: GAIL’s ₹1,736 Crore Green Expansion

GAIL has unveiled plans to invest ₹1,736.25 crore in a wind power project in Maharashtra, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio and supporting its target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2035.

In a regulatory filing, the company said its board cleared the proposal at a meeting held on Friday. The project will develop 178.2 megawatts (MW) of wind power capacity and is slated for completion within 24 months from the date of contract award.

The upcoming project will add to GAIL’s existing renewable assets, which comprise 117.95 MW of wind energy and 27 MW of solar capacity spread across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

The investment highlights the company’s continued focus on expanding clean energy operations as India advances its shift toward more sustainable power sources.
