NLC India Renewables Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd. (TNGECL) for the development of three standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Tamil Nadu.
The BESS installations will be located at the following substations:
400/230/110 kV Ottapidaram SS
400/230/110 kV Anuppankulam SS
400/230/110 kV Kayathar SS
Together, these sites will offer a total storage capacity of 250 MW / 500 MWh, with the ability to perform two full charging/discharging cycles per day to support on-demand grid usage.
This marks the first large-scale BESS initiative by the NLCIL Group, and it will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support under the state component.
The contract was awarded through a competitive bidding process, highlighting NLC India Renewables’ growing role in the energy storage and clean energy transition landscape.
