Green Growth: BBAU's Biofertilizer Unit Opens in HP

Professor Naveen Kumar Arora of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, has played a pivotal role in establishing a biofertiliser production unit and laboratory in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Manav Vikas Sansthan. This initiative represents a significant advancement toward promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices.

Professor Arora provided technical training to the staff of Manav Vikas Sansthan for the development of microbe-based biofertilisers. These formulations have already demonstrated success in enhancing crop productivity across villages in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, using environmentally sustainable methods.

Previously, under a project funded by DST-SEED, Ministry of Science and Technology, BBAU had been developing and distributing biofertilisers to farmers in the region. With the establishment of the new facility, local production in Himachal Pradesh has now begun.

"The lab will produce biofertilisers using beneficial microorganisms such as Trichoderma, Pseudomonas, and Bacillus, among others," Professor Arora said. "These critical microbial strains were provided by me to support the operations of the newly developed unit."

The initiative is expected to strengthen rural self-reliance, promote organic farming, and contribute to long-term agricultural sustainability in the region.
