Gujarat’s Green Gambit: A ₹5 Trillion Leap into the Future

The Government of Gujarat has unveiled the Green Hydrogen Policy 2025, targeting a green hydrogen production capacity of three million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2035.

Under the policy, the state aims to develop 30 GW of electrolyser capacity and 75 GW of renewable energy capacity. Gujarat expects to attract investments of around ₹5 trillion in the green hydrogen and renewable energy sectors, generating approximately 6,00,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The initiative also seeks to reduce natural gas consumption by two MTPA and cut carbon dioxide emissions by five MTPA.

The policy covers green hydrogen production projects, associated derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, as well as supporting infrastructure across the state. Eligible developers include private companies, public sector undertakings, and joint ventures. All projects must involve new plant and machinery and be registered within the policy period, which runs until 2035.

Renewable energy required for production may be sourced through multiple avenues, including captive generation, third-party procurement, and power exchanges.
