NIBE Group recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art Defence Manufacturing Complex in Shirdi, Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Rajnath Singh and Devendra Fadnavis, along with senior military officials, defence scientists, and dignitaries including Anil Chauhan and Samir V. Kamat.
The integrated complex has been envisioned as a next-generation defence manufacturing hub focused on advanced artillery systems, missile technologies, ammunition production, rocket systems, energetic materials, autonomous platforms, and space technologies. The facility includes a 155 mm ammunition shell manufacturing unit with a planned annual capacity of 5 lakh shells, indigenous TNT and RDX production plants, a bio-CNG and hydrogen fuel unit, and infrastructure dedicated to space and satellite technology development.
A key highlight of the inauguration was the unveiling of “Suryastra,” a 300 km-range universal rocket launching system, which the company described as India’s first indigenous platform of its kind, designed to strengthen long-range precision strike capabilities. The event also featured demonstrations of a 100 km-class loitering munition system, underscoring the company’s growing presence in advanced warfare technologies.
Addressing the gathering, Rajnath Singh praised the company’s contribution to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, stating that such capabilities would accelerate India’s journey toward self-reliance in critical defence technologies. Devendra Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s expanding role as a defence manufacturing hub and described the project as an important step in strengthening the state’s emerging defence corridor.
Ganesh Nibe, Chairman of NIBE Group, stated that the company remains committed to advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by developing indigenous capabilities, reducing import dependence, and positioning India as a global defence manufacturing destination.
According to the company, the new manufacturing complex is expected to generate more than 3,000 direct jobs while supporting defence innovation, MSME participation, and advanced technology development.
