Tata Fast-Tracks ₹27,120Cr Assam Semiconductor Plant

Tata Electronics is accelerating operations at its upcoming ₹27,120 crore semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad by advancing its manufacturing timeline to cater to global automotive and industrial customers.

Instead of waiting for the completion of the entire infrastructure and full assembly lines, the company is fast-tracking the setup process to begin chip packaging operations ahead of schedule.

As part of its phased operational strategy, Tata Electronics is transferring an existing product line from its facility in Vemgal to the new Assam plant. To facilitate the transition, a specialised team from the Vemgal unit is expected to relocate to Jagiroad by the end of May 2026 and replicate the established assembly and testing operations within the facility’s newly developed one-million-square-foot cleanroom space.

By deploying an operational manufacturing line early, the company aims to optimise logistics, validate equipment performance, and improve initial production yields before gradually scaling up to full operational capacity.

The Jagiroad project is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and support the country’s broader push towards electronics and chip manufacturing self-reliance.
