Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has unveiled a forward-looking vision for India’s transportation sector, centered on innovative mobility solutions such as electric buses, hyperloop systems, and ropeway connectivity.
“We are driving innovation. A revolution in mass mobility is underway,” Gadkari said, emphasizing goals to reduce pollution, enhance connectivity, and lower logistics costs. Currently, 360 ropeway and funicular railway projects are planned for hilly regions like Kedarnath, with 60 already in progress. Urban pilot projects—including Metrino pod taxis, pillar-based transit, and hyperloop systems—are in the pipeline for cities like Delhi and Bengaluru.
Electric buses with 135 seats, air-conditioning, and high-speed capability (120–125 km/h) will undergo trials in Nagpur before deployment on key routes such as Delhi–Jaipur and Mumbai–Pune. National highway length has expanded from 91,287 km in 2013–14 to 1,46,204 km today, while high-speed corridors have grown from just 93 km to 2,474 km. Advanced technologies like precast road construction, AI-based monitoring, and modern road barriers are also being introduced to enhance infrastructure efficiency and safety.
