On July 4, 2025, Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE), a subsidiary of HD Hyundai and one of the world’s largest shipbuilders. The agreement marks the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership focused on shipbuilding and maritime innovation.
The MoU outlines joint efforts to explore shipbuilding opportunities both in India and internationally, along with initiatives for technical collaboration, capacity enhancement, productivity improvement, and workforce upskilling. CSL is expected to benefit from KSOE’s extensive global expertise in constructing commercial vessels, naval platforms, and offshore infrastructure—delivered through its major shipyards: Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
The partnership also aligns with CSL’s broader expansion strategy. In May 2025, CSL signed a separate MoU with Drydocks World (a DP World subsidiary) to establish a ship repair and offshore fabrication hub in Kochi, further reinforcing its position as a key player in the global maritime sector.
