Bengaluru to Vijayawada in 6 Hours: The NH-44 Fast Track

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to upgrade NH-44 into a 10-lane corridor to improve connectivity between Bengaluru and the Vijayawada Expressway, significantly enhancing long-distance travel efficiency.

The project covers a 90-km stretch, featuring a six-lane main carriageway from Devanahalli to Kodikonda, which will integrate with the greenfield section of the 342-km Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Expressway. Once completed, the upgrade is expected to cut travel time between Bengaluru and Vijayawada from 11–12 hours to about six to seven hours.

According to a senior NHAI official, the widening of NH-44 will help ease traffic congestion and improve traffic flow. A cloverleaf interchange at Kodikonda is also planned to seamlessly connect the expressway with NH-44.

The draft detailed project report (DPR) for the upgrade is expected by February, with construction slated to begin at Kannamangala Gate near Devanahalli. Most of the land required for the project is already in NHAI’s possession, barring a few stretches requiring railway overbridges.
