A world-class 2,000-bed multispecialty hospital is set to be developed in Chandigarh’s Sector-53, with a projected investment of around ₹1,000 crore (excluding land costs). Spanning 23.45 acres and covering 1.80 lakh sq. mtrs, the project will be executed in three phases.
Construction will cost ₹500 crore, with an additional ₹500 crore allocated for advanced medical equipment. The Central government will fund the project, guided by NITI Aayog’s recommendations.
Phase I will include a mother and child healthcare block, trauma and burn unit, emergency wing, mental health and de-addiction centre, advanced diagnostics, a clinical lab, and an academic block.
Phase II will add a geriatric centre and an advanced disease control centre.
Phase III will complete the remaining infrastructure.
The facility will also feature residential quarters, a medical college, and a helipad for emergency response. Conceived as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ on par with AIIMS, the project was initiated after the 2024 visit of the Union Home Secretary. It aims to decongest existing hospitals like GMSH-16 and PGIMER, while serving the broader northern India region.
