A New Era for Coimbatore Trains: ₹100 Crore Boost for Podanur

In response to the growing demand for additional trains at Coimbatore Junction, Southern Railway is set to transform Podanur station into the city's second terminal, with an investment of ₹100 crore.

Podanur, one of the oldest stations in Tamil Nadu, is already undergoing a ₹24 crore renovation under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, with nearly 80% of the work completed. A railway official explained, "Limited land availability at Coimbatore Junction has made expansion challenging. As a solution, Southern Railway is enhancing infrastructure at Podanur station to make it the city's second terminal."

The ₹100 crore investment will go towards creating pit lines and stabling line infrastructure. While the station upgrades are nearing completion, some roofing and entrance work remains pending. The pit line project, however, is expected to take more than two years, which may delay the full operational readiness of the new terminal.
