Gurugram's Green Light: MCG Approves Key Urban Initiatives

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) convened its general house meeting on August 11, 2025, at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration, Sector-18, approving a series of civic and infrastructure initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable urban growth.

Key proposals included the citywide expansion of rainwater harvesting systems, installation of name boards for elected councillors, finalisation of a new rate contract for streetlighting, and the transfer of land to the health department for establishing an urban primary health centre. The house also approved reduced development charges to encourage planned construction and infrastructure access.

Additional measures cleared during the session included organising special camps to facilitate water meter connections and setting up a compressed biogas (CBG) plant in each of the city’s four municipal zones to enhance waste-to-energy capacity.

Two councillors were elected to MCG’s Finance and Contract Committee, responsible for overseeing key financial and contractual decisions.

Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra reiterated the Corporation’s focus on improving water supply, sewage systems, rainwater harvesting, and environmental sustainability. She urged councillors to actively engage residents in making Gurugram a cleaner, safer, and more modern city.
