In a major move to promote sustainability and circularity in the dairy sector, the Indian government has announced the formation of three new multi-state cooperative societies. The initiative was unveiled during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, aligning with the vision of “White Revolution 2.0.”
The meeting, attended by Union Ministers of State Krishan Pal Singh Gurjar and Muralidhar Mohol, along with officials from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and NABARD, highlighted a unified, cross-institutional strategy to modernize dairy operations.
Each cooperative society will serve a specific focus area:
The first will improve animal health and productivity through enhanced feed production, disease control, and artificial insemination.
The second will create scalable models for effective dung management.
The third will focus on circular solutions for utilizing residues from dead cattle.
These initiatives aim to increase operational efficiency, promote environmental responsibility, and boost farmer incomes. Minister Shah emphasized that any carbon credits generated through these eco-friendly initiatives should directly benefit farmers. He also called for integrated dairy cooperatives to help drive productivity and rural economic growth.
This marks a strategic shift from conventional dairy practices to more sustainable, science-driven systems that prioritize both environmental and economic resilience.
